DID YOU KNOW THERE IS A RATTLESNAKE VACCINE?

The Rattlesnake vaccine works by stimulating an animal's immunity to defend against potentially harmful agents. The Rattlesnake Vaccine is intended to help create an immunity that will protect your dog against rattlesnake venom.

What happens if your dog gets bit by a rattlesnake?
Even after your dog is vaccinated against rattlesnake venom, he or she should be taken to your veterinarian for evaluation and care as soon as possible following the snakebite. Then your veterinarian will determine any further treatment.
Treatment for a dog that has been bitten by a rattlesnake is called antivenom. However, this treatment is not currently avaible due to the manufacturer stock being depleted. This is why it is so important to have the Rattlesnake Vaccine on board for the pets that may be around an area that has rattlesnakes. If you have any questions about this vaccine please call us at 925-240-7387.

Fleas are out and hopping around on our pets!
Make sure your pet is protected from these nasty little bugs.
Fleas are out-and-about year-round but especially in the warm summer months. It only takes one bite to send your pet to the itch factory. Flea bites can cause skin dermatitis, irritation, and discomfort to your pet. Not to mention they multiply by the thousands in days. Fleas like to live in carpets, rugs and on our lovable pets.  They even like us humans.
To prevent fleas, your pet can take a once a month beef flavored tablet called Sentinel with a Capstar tablet for immediate relief, or you can apply a once a month topical called Frontline Plus. Both of these flea controls are a great way to protect your pet from fleas. Sentinel is labeled as a flea birth control, heartworm prevention, and intestinal worm killer. It sterilizes the adult fleas so the eggs they lay will not hatch. With Sentinel, a Capstar tablet is given to immmediately kill any adult fleas, if needed. Sentinel is for canines only. Frontline Plus is labeled to kill adult fleas, flea larvae, flea eggs, and ticks on contact. This is a topical applied once a month to the pet's skin. It is applied to the shoulder blade area of the pet. Frontline Plus is for canine & feline use. For felines we also recommend Revolution. This is labeled to kill adult fleas, prevent heartworm, ear mite control and it also kills intestinal worms. Revolution is a once a month topical.

Ask us which is the best for your pet on your next visit!

Mosquitos are here and making their way onto our pets causing infection!

Mosquitos land on our dogs and cats taking a blood meal from their skin. When this happens they can inject heartworm larva into the skin. The larva then travels through the muscle tissue and migrates into your pet's heart. The heart is where the larva then turns into a worm.
So make sure that your pet is up to date on their heartworm test and heartworm prevention.
A great thing about heartworm prevention is that it prevents against intestinal worms as well. Here at Family Pet Care we carry the best heartworm preventions. They are Sentinel, Interceptor, and Heartgard plus for dogs and Revolution for cats.

What would you do if your pet got lost without a collar or tag?
How would they be identified?

Make sure this does not happen to your family pet, microchip your pet today. 10 million pets get lost every year, without ID 90% do not return home. The #1 cause of pet death is getting lost. Homeagain microchips have reuntited over 400,000 lost cats and dogs with their loving owners.
The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin.  It is pain free. The protection and security that this microchip provides is your pet getting home if lost.
Why would you not get your pet microchipped?
